Lucien's obituary
Lucien Peter Denesse, affectionately known as "Uncle Boo" to his nieces and nephews, was born on November 18, 1941, to Leon and Agnes Denesse. The youngest of six siblings, he shared a special bond with Leonard (Sylvia), Leander (Bonita), Leonora (Arthur), Lloyd (Vivian), and Lois (Sammy), who lovingly referred to him as her "Afterbirth." Lucien passed away peacefully in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 16, 2024, at the age of 83.
Lucien is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Carroll Augustin Denesse; his children, Geoffrey Peter Denesse (Kimberly) and Kimberly Marie Denesse; his cherished grandchildren, Tristan Michael LeBlanc, Carter Asher Denesse, Jeremy Peter Denesse, and Gabrielle Alon Denesse; and his sister, Lois Denesse Hingle. He also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, sister and brother in-laws, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
As a young man, Lucien worked alongside his father on the Shamrock trawling and fishing, later taking up work at Battistella's Boat Marina. In 1961, he married Carroll on his birthday, beginning a lifelong partnership. After moving to New Orleans in 1963, he held various jobs, including working for Viking Meat Packers and Exxon Service Station. Lucien eventually became the first Black Shell Dealer in Louisiana when he owned Avondale Shell, where he was known for his generosity, often helping stranded motorists free of charge.
Lucien later fulfilled a dream by driving a beer truck for Crown Beverage until his retirement at 62. In his later years, he found joy as an unofficial Uber driver for his beloved grandchildren, attending their activities and spending cherished time with them daily.
A man of humor and warmth, Lucien was known for his colorful stories, playful sayings like "wacka wacka," and his love of boo-ray games with family. He also enjoyed casino trips with his best friend Allen and assisting Carroll in the kitchen as her sous chef.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lucien's life on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Charbonnet Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by services. Interment will take place at Lake Lawn Cemetery, with a repast afterward at Charbonnet, 1615 St. Phillip Street.
Lucien will be missed by many. One thing his daughter wants people to know and remember about Lucien is that "HE WAS WELL LOVED AND HE LOVED WELL!". May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
