Lt. Col. Don's obituary

Lt. Col. Don R. Stephenson, Jr., 87, of Hixson, passed away on November 16, 2024.

He was born in Sheffield, Al., and attended the University of Chattanooga. Upon graduation he began his military career as an Army Engineer. Lt. Colonel Stephenson was the Commander of B Company 169th Engineering Battalion and the Commander of B Company 844th Engineering Battalion. He also served as Director of Facilities 3397th US Army Garrison and the Deputy Commander of the 3397th US Army Garrison. Don worked for and retired from TVA after 20 + years of service as project manager and chemical engineer. Some of his favorite pastimes were spent traveling and collecting antiques. He enjoyed working around the house and yard and never spent an idle moment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don R. Stephenson, Sr., and Hallie Adams Stephenson.

Left behind to cherish Don’s memory are his wife of 63 years, Diane Wilcoxen Stephenson, his sons, Donald Ragan Stephenson IV and William Thomas Stephenson, daughters-in-law, Emily Stephenson and Donna Stephenson, four grandchildren, Hallie Stephenson, Fiona Stephenson, Frank Stephenson; and Beau Stephenson, and many cousins.

A Celebration of Don’s Life was held graveside in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday Nov. 22, at 1:30 p.m. with full military honors. The family received friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Arrangements were under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
