Rosie/Rose's obituary
Lozena M. “Rosie/Rose” Smith
May 25, 1941 – November 30, 2025
Lozena M. Smith, affectionately known to family and friends as Rosie or Rose, passed away on November 30th, 2025 at the age of 84 in Erlanger, KY. Known simply as Rose, she was a devoted caretaker of the elderly, a compassionate presence, and a bright light to all who knew her. With her spirited and feisty nature, she was unforgettable and deeply loved.
Rose had a profound connection to the natural world. Often barefoot and grounded in nature, she found peace outdoors and held a special love for the Ohio River, where she felt calm and at home. She cherished her birthplace of Tennessee, which remained close to her heart throughout her life. Rose loved animals of all kinds and had a tender heart for every living creature. Among her many animal companions were a squirrel she lovingly rescued and her beloved Maltese, Snowball, who preceded her in death but remained forever close to her heart.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—picking fresh pears, playing cards with her sisters, sitting on the porch with friends, taking walks, and enjoying breakfast at local diners. Known for her boisterous whistle that could be heard from down the block, Rose was often stopped during her daily walks to chat with anyone who crossed her path. These moments reflected her values of friendship and community. She was a familiar and comforting presence throughout Norwood, where she was known and loved by many. Always willing to help anyone in need, Rose gave freely of herself and left every place brighter than she found it.
A proud Cincinnatian, Rose loved her Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals, faithfully cheering them on and sharing that passion with those around her.
She was the cherished daughter of the late Henry and Mary Alice (Hodge) Jones. She was preceded in death by her brother, Archie Jones; her sisters, Evelyn Ryan and Juanita Herrell; her son, Anthony M. Fielden; her husband, Charles Smith; and her beloved companion, Jessie “Van” Saunders.
Rose is survived by her sister, Joann Ritchie; her children, Jo Kelly Wynn (David Wynn), Mark Fielden, and Ervin Fielden; her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Frazier (Fielden); her grandchildren, Tess Fielden, Avery Rose Fielden, Gavin Montesi, and William Montesi; and three great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
Rose’s life was one of kindness, strength, resilience, and heart. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the love she gave so freely, and the sense of community she created wherever she went. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
