I met Louise 48 years ago in class at Cal State Northridge. After graduation she tipped me off to a job opening in our field (city planning) with the County of Ventura where we worked (and played) together. I stayed for 37 years. She was raising her girls and I was raising my son in Thousand Oaks. There were so many good times. After a couple of years Louise deserted government for the private sector but we remained good friends. I enjoyed visiting her up north especially since I had also lived in Tiburon years earlier. We both love our cats.
Most memorable - our 3 week trip to Spain in 1997.No chain hotels or rented cars for us. Bus, subway, high speed train, hydro foil boat (to Morocco) and local accommodations all the way.
Memories will linger long after Louise's physical passing. My heart goes out to Leslie, Laura, Jim and the family. I'll be thinking of you, her friends, and co-workers during both Celebrations of Life. I feel so lucky to have known Louise. She was a beautiful, smart, funny, loving, compassionate, remarkable human being.
P.S. Who else would enjoy watching hours of C-span?

I knew Louise during her tenure at City of Hercules and she is unforgettable. Possessing oodles of charisma, she struck an imposing figure of great stature, replete with intelligence, wit, compassion, physical beauty and moral depth; plus she was committed to having serious fun. Translate: she was not only uplifting, but also a blast to be around. Let's face it: she was exquisite, had incomparable style and to know her was to fall (at least a little) in love with her. Huge kudos to Jim for shrewdly capturing her heart and then giving his so completely, without bounds.

Jim & Family - I have nothing but great memories of Louise. She was such a strong and spirited woman. Full of life, ideas and power to accomplish them. I am truly sorry for you loss - especially through this awful disease. She is without a doubt in a happier place now - although not with you and your love for the moment. God bless you for the love and care you gave her especially during her most trying times. Terry Segerberg

I'm so sad to hear this news, but am glad that Louise is at peace. Louise initially made such a huge impact on me as a 16-year-old, trying to figure out what my future held and who I wanted to be. Her strength, poise, openness, ambition, and amazingly contagious and magnetic energy were such a positive influence on my life. Early in my career and life, I often found myself asking, "What would Louise do?" I'm so grateful to have known her and to feel her love. And I thank my lucky stars that Laura is one of my most cherished friends. You are such a wonderful daughter. Sending you all love and peace, Denise Bruhns

Memories of my friendship with Louise: she dragged me along to the Unitarian Fellowship, Common Cause, campaign coffees, city council meetings, and ultimately to the tennis court, where I tried to get my racquet around her drop shots and giant lobs. Our kids played together while I hung out in her kitchen, with the sun tea steeping on the back deck. Her activism and the energy she gave to the things she believed in amazed me. Lastly, but not least of all, I watched her with her kids and learned to be a better mother. She never stopped growing as a vibrant, intelligent, loving human being and her passing leaves a huge gap in this world.

I was pleased to provide Louise with office space inside the Hercules Police Department when she was our Assistant City Manager. We considered her a colleague more out of the Martha Stewart than Jane Fonda mold. Louise routinely shared candy and other support for the men in blue and never betrayed any confidence. In this life, we meet so few people who always bring a smile to our faces...thank you, Louise.

I met Louise in junior high school, and graduated with her from Lynwood High school in 1961. I wish I could say that we were great friends, but honestly we were really acquaintances. After not seeing many of my classmates for many years after school, I ran into her at a gathering for one of our classmates who had passed away. Louise walked over to me and told me that she knew and remembered me from school. From that point on we became friends on Facebook and kept in touch that way. She was a very classy lady and I will miss her very much. I just wish I would have gotten to know her better in school.
