Alex's obituary

Alexei "Losha" Silchenko (1993-2025)

It is with the heaviest of hearts and unimaginable grief that our family announces the passing of our beloved Alexei "Losha" Silchenko. He left this world unexpectedly in the early evening hours of Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. He had just turned 32 in March.

Losha was born in Kremenchuk, Ukraine on March 1st, 1993. He was a cherished son to Vera and Vlad, a devoted brother to Olga and Dasha, a loyal relative, a trusted friend, a dedicated respiratory therapist, and a loving pup dad to his Doberman, Roxy. His presence lit up every room he entered, and his generous, joyful spirit left a lasting mark on every heart he touched.

On the day he passed, Losha was surrounded by friends and nature. It was a beautiful Saturday on the Fort George Inlet in Jacksonville, Florida. After a long and demanding week at the hospital, he was out on the water boating, swimming, and resting. In just a few seconds, he was pulled in by a rip current and his lungs filled with water quickly. After extensive search efforts, his body was recovered in the water the next morning. The official cause of death was drowning. Though the loss is devastating, we take comfort in knowing he spent his final moments in the place that brought him the most joy, where he loved to surf. Beneath the blue sky and surrounded by ocean water.

Losha lived life to the fullest. He loved adventures and exploring. He enjoyed riding bikes, climbing trees, skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing and traveling the world. He collected scrapes, broken bones and bruises like trophies. He was fearless and once saved our young cousin, Daniel, from drowning in a pond. He was a hero, healer and protector.

As a respiratory therapist, Losha was fiercely dedicated to his work. He specialized in critical care and lifesaving procedures, including emergency airway management. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served on the frontlines as an essential worker. He traveled across the country to treat patients in hospitals, from Boston, MA to Billings, MT, Miami, FL to Los Angeles, CA to Augusta, GA and beyond. His home bases were CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC, and Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. His colleagues became a second family and his passion for saving lives impacted thousands.

Beyond his career, Losha loved deeply. He loved his family, friends, relatives, animals, nature, music, and God. His faith in Jesus was the foundation of his life. He lived with humility, courage, and grace and poured love onto others. He helped our mother grieve her brother by the ocean where our uncle, Volodya, liked to fish. He helped our dad with mechanics and cars at his body shop and helped him care for his dad, our grandfather, with patience and care. He loved with a quiet strength that made others feel safe.

Losha was incredibly talented on the guitar. He played the electric and acoustic guitar everyday. The music that he played is now appreciated and remembered by his loved ones. He also left numerous videos and journals of his adventures around the country and around the world, and the precious moments he captured are helping to keep his memory and legacy alive.

Though our loss is profound, we hold tightly to the hope that this is not goodbye. Losha believed in Heaven, and we trust in the hope that we will see him again.

Surviving Family Members: Vera Silchenko, Vlad Silchenko, Olga Silchenko and Dasha Silchenko.
