Kay's obituary

Lorraine Kay Zerck passed peacefully on March 16, 2023, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born February 13, 1943, and was the youngest daughter of Henry and Marrietta Pominville. She grew up in Port Chicago, CA and graduated from Pacifica High School in 1960. She was a California Girl until 2021 when she moved to live with her family in Nevada.

When her father passed in December 1960, Kay left college to work and help her mother keep their home. Kay worked in the banking and finance industry for 10 years. In 1962 she married Richard Zerck, and they had one daughter. In 1970, Kay changed careers and went to work at Antioch Junior High School so that she could have the same time off as their daughter. In 1978, Kay moved over to Antioch High School as the Registrar. She served as President of the Classified Schoel Employees Association, and she served on the Personnel Commission for the Antioch Unified School District. In 1982, Kay left the high school and went to work at Los Medanos College in the Business Office.

Kay retired from LMC in 2005 but she could not stay home and do nothing. She first took on the gift shop responsibilities for Kaiser in Antioch, overseeing sales and inventory and reconciling the banks. When the giftshops were closed, Kay stayed on as a volunteer, She greeted patients and helped them to their appointments or whatnot, Kay even pushed wheelchairs when needed. She remained at Kaiser until early 2020 when Covid-19 forced her out.

Kay was always volunteering for a good cause. Whether it be selling tickets to school home games or Christmas trees for the band, See’s Candies fundraisers, the Camp Fire Girls, you could count on Kay. After retirement Kay would make time for an annual ACS Relay for Life event and spend a week working at the rodeos in Fernley Nevada with her daughter. Kay was dearly loved and appreciated by everyone she encountered and she will be missed,

Kay loved to travel and has been to most continents. She loved to read, spend time with her family and friends, attend plays and concerts, and go gambling. She would bake goodies and make meals for any occasion and her Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Mousse Cake were the most wanted favorites. She always wanted to be busy.

Her family was the most important thing in her life, and she loved them, and they loved her. She leaves behind daughter Gidget, son-in-law Hank and grandson, Tyler Kelsey; step-grandchildren Chris (Lesly) Kelsey, Stacy (Jason) Pardini, Courtney (Matt) Wood and Chad (Rene) Kelsey, and their children, She will forever be their “Grandma Kay”.

Private ceremony to be held at Memory Gardens in Concord, CA.
