Lorretta (Gigi)'s obituary
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Lorretta "Gigi" Boyd nee Walters, who was affectionately known as Gigi. Born in 1965, Lorretta departed this life on December 14, 2024. She is survived by her Husband: Paul, Son: Karl, daughters: Karlene and Lyarnna along with 6 grandchildren.
Lorretta's striking personality was a reflection of her beautiful heart. She was a blend of being remarkable, caring, humble and assertive, making her an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. The valuable lessons she offered to those around her - to never give up, to be patient, to love, and to always be honest, forgiving, and kind, will be passed on through generations. She had a love for animals especially her beloved Ruby and horses, learning, shopping, along with heels and her wrist bangles - she was often heard approaching from afar!
Lorretta's life was a testament to her strength and resilience. Amongst her many accomplishments, she took immense pride in her three independent children and adored her six grandchildren. A significant achievement was the establishment and successful operation of Wize Up, a testament to her perseverance and fortitude. Wize Up opened in 2008, followed by another all girls site in 2020 (Ruby) with the overall capacity for 70 young people on roll.
Lorretta leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity. Despite facing many personal obstacles, she proved that one could indeed succeed even when life seemed to stack the odds against you. Her greatest testament to this was the creation of a school, an endeavor she embarked on, having been in a special (Meadowgate) school herself.
Lorretta's absence will be deeply felt by many - her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, wider family, the staff at Wize Up, past and present pupils, and many school staff across numerous boroughs. The memories of her kindness, ever-present smile, and her indomitable spirit will continue to live on in our hearts.
A funeral service will be held in honor of Lorretta on Thursday 6th February, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at St Peter's Brockley. We invite all those whose lives were touched by Lorretta to join us in celebrating her remarkable life and saying our final goodbyes.
