Thinking of Lori and her family and friends.

Dr Lori diagnosed our young GSD with a heart problem that likely would have killed him if not for her referring us to Cardiology. We are eternally grateful. The Cardiology vet said it was “the catch of a lifetime for a primary vet to spot it” Edward and his sister Ella just celebrated their 7th birthday.

I met Lori first as a committed Rotarian, then as our vet (4 cats, 3 dogs) and finally as a friend. The first to volunteer for projects, most often with a shovel in hand, she epitomized our club as activists rather than passive check writers. A terrific hostess for all of us. I will miss her.

My two dogs were older and having health issues. She scheduled a test for my dog and part way through it she had to stop and called us to come take him to the hospital. He was not doing well. We rushed to get him and they handed him to us. Dr Lori came running out the door to hug and kiss him with a very sad look on her face. We knew at that time it was not good and prepared ourselves. We lost him that day and when we called her she was so kind and caring which truly helped with our grieving. It’s tough to lose such a wonderful person and caregiver to our pets.

I had the blessing to know Lori as a veterinary colleague, friend, and fellow sailor. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to take a sailing cruise with Lori. One of my favorite memories of Lori was on a Labor Day weekend. My husband and I were anchored out at Cape Lookout with a lot of other sailing boats. I look out from our boat and see another beautiful sailing boat coming in to drop anchor close to us. I noticed that I recognized the woman as she was getting ready to drop anchor. It was Lori! So we took our dinghy over to her boat. At first, she didn't recognize me, but when she did, she made my husband and I so welcome! Making sure we had a drink in our hands and something to eat! She was just such an amazing person. So warm, caring, and selfless!! My heart goes out to Randy and all of Lori's family and friends. Her passing has left a void in this world.

It has taken me many days before I could write. We are completely heartbroken and will sorely miss Dr. Lori and her friendship and care of our pets. I had a very hard time finding a vet who cared about cats so, in my book, Lori is one of special kind. Her compassion when one the cats died and making room in her surgery schedule for my ferals... Lori was so kind - always. I remember we were in the office one time and I picked up a magazine and she was so excited to show me HER boat docked on the Beaufort coast in a picture. She was amazing and wonderful. It is so good to see the pictures of her life well lived.
