Loretta's obituary
Loretta Grass, known fondly as “Tootsie ” when she was in high school was born on August 5, 1929 in Castle Hill, Maine. She grew up in freedom, Maine, and spent most of her adult life, raising her children in Knox Maine, peacefully passed away on February 11, 2026. A woman. of wit, love, care, and exceptional hard work, Loretta left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege to know her, .
Left to honor Loretta and remember her love are her children; her sons, Brian, Bruce, Larry Grass, and her daughter, Lorri Cunningham. Her family was the cornerstone of her life and she instilled in them strong values that continue to serve them well. Her sense of humor and her capacity for hard work will also forever live through them, guiding them through the journey of life.
Loretta will be remembered for her unique ability to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. She had a love for a good filet mignon and a margarita, She enjoyed indulging in Nora Roberts and Zane Grey books. A fan of Country music, Loretta would often hum along with the tunes of her favorite artists. She enjoyed playing cards.(especially nickels with friends and family and loved solvingcrossword puzzles.
She loved cooking and baking. When working by your husband, Ray, she would bake as many as five pies and several dozen donuts every day for the customers at “Ray’s Diner”, a restaurant they owned for 21 years. Each year they would close the restaurant and travel to their.favorite vacation spots, Arizona and Florida.
The Freedom Congregational Church was not only her place of worship, but also her favorite local spot. Loretta's personality shone brightly in her dedication towards causes she cared about such as Church Suppers.
A funeral service celebrating Loretta's life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Freedom Congregational Church. It is not a day to mourn, but rather a day to honor a life well-lived and to come together to remember a person who touched so many lives and left behind a legacy of love, humor, and hard work.
Her legacy will be celebrated every time her family sits down for a meal, plays a game of cards, or listens to a George Strait song. She will be dearly missed by her church, family, and all of her children, and surviving family members.. May her soul rest in peace and her memories continue to inspire all.
