"In the untimely loss of our gentle giant from the family, our hearts ache with mourning. We will forever cherish the memory of your kind and gentle soul. For even as the body departs, the spirit lives on eternally."

Dear Kristen,

Praying for you and family at this great loss of your dear husband. We will keep you in our prayers for God’s comfort and strength . We love you. God bless.

My previous post is a screenshot of some text exchanges between Eric and I.  June 25, 2023 I took a trip to Home Depot to get Eric a part to repair the sink in our restroom at work.  A few hours after handing him the part he text me saying he needed me to take another trip to the hardware store.  Apparently while fixing what was broke he broke another piece of the sink.  I commented that if he continued smashing everything we would end up with a completely remodeled bathroom.  His response was that he would make sure to put a tub and sauna as well.  Classic Eric, not knowing his own strength.  Rest easy my friend, we have the watch.
It was a honor serving with you on the ASHEVILLE. Thanks for making the meaningful mark on our lives.
It was an honor to have served on ASHEVILLE with Eric!  He was a great person and Sailor!  Our hearts and prayers are with his family during this troubling time!
I enjoyed serving with Eric. He was a very kind soul.  Fair winds and following seas Eric. We have the watch. Prayers for your family.

Ronan fell in love with Catan…
Ronan fell in love with Catan, while playing with Eric and Zeke. He says it’s not the same playing with anyone else. Ronan will also never forget his first “luxury” movie theater experience with his great friend Zeke and Zeke’s dad, Eric. He always talks about the first time he went to the movies with the big seats and “room service” and how Eric treated them to everything they wanted— pizza, Slurpees, popcorn— the works!

I had the privilege of serving on the Asheville with Wigby. He was a great man. He was kind and gentle and huge.

I pray that the Lord provides a peace that surpasses all understanding. And that the Lord wraps his arms around you and your family.

Dear Kristen,

I loved reading about Eric’s life. We are fervently praying for you and your sweet family.

Our Love,

Cousin Julie and Ric

Dear Kristen,

We are praying for you and your sweet boys. Love to you all.

Brian and Joan

I met Eric when I joined the Boy Scouts. Must have been around 1995. I was unusual for the group, in that I joined in high school (very late compared to most scouts) and wasnt a member of a church. Eric was kind to me right away and never treated me like an outsider. We ended up developing a friendship through Scouts and we later became wrestling opponents in high school. Eric and I remained friends and were able to keep competition and friendship seperate.  We ended up wrestling twice, each of us winning one, losing one. I remember Eric's tremendous physical strength and also how he comforted me after defeating me. In fact as I write this with great sadness I feel Eric comforting me again, saying its ok. Thats the kind of guy he was. Strong as an ox but a gentle kind soul who did good in the world.  I dont understand why he was  taken so early because he really was the kind of guy who helped others around him. I remember he was so joyful roughhousing on the floor with his young son. I will really miss him. Rest in peace big guy-Jon

1993, Backpacking with Troop 156
On my first backpacking trip with Troop 156, I wasn't prepared for the physical intensity of the trip, and was lagging behind.  Eric walked in the back with me, helped my get my gear in order, and talked to me about our shared love of comic books to take my mind off being the slowest person on the trail.  That was just who he was.  In July of 1998, he was also the person I walked out of the Canadian Rockies with on 156's trip to Banff.  I was in much better shape by this time, but Eric was still the same wonderful person, who helped everyone around him, and made you believe in human decency.  I'm so sorry he's gone.
No one can experience your pain or loss in this sadiest moment, hence we pray to the Lord to replace your loss by Himself with love, strength and comfort! Amen!
Eric was an incredibly generous and kind friend to me over the years.  He was also a gracious and faith filled brother in Christ. I might have briefly met Eric when he was at RPI, but my first memories of him are in our weekly small group Bible study in San Diego through Harbor Presbyterian Church.  Eric was incredibly quiet during these times of Bible study, sharing and prayer.  Yet, if you asked him questions directly (and maybe prodded a bit) he could share great insights from the Bible or share honestly about his life. Also, his faith was more than words and attending worship and small groups. During several seasons of challenge in my life he was an important, regular prayer partner.  He was also exceedingly generous to me and others in ministry over the years.  He was also a fun, kind and generous (though not very talkative) roommate for almost two years in San Diego. He had a great smile and quick mind.  What a huge loss it is that he is no longer with us.
