Loree's obituary
Loree Hintermister, 72, of Avon, Ct, passed away on 10/31/22 from a heart attack.
Loree was born on August 1, 1950, to Margaret and Robert Hintermister in Hartford, Ct. She graduated from Simsbury High School in 1968, where she was the junior Prom Queen and an outstanding athlete in field hockey and softball, and skied in the winter. She attended Colby Jr College (NH) for a year, and then pursued her passion of ski instruction before furthering her education later in life. She taught at Okemo, Stratton and Stowe in VT, and Heavenly in CA. She was also an instructor for Elissa Slanger’s Women’s Way ski weeks that were offered at resorts nationwide. She loved skiing and teaching, and was never more alive than when pursuing her passion.
One of Loree’s favorite times growing up, and indeed for the whole family, was spending a month every summer at a rustic cottage on Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, NY, her father’s hometown. She flourished in the “Lake culture” and enjoyed activities such as swimming, water skiing, canoeing and sailing. It was so special to her that she married Charles Bass from Santa Barbara, CA, at the cottage on August 1, 1978. Loree and Charlie lived in New England for a few years before moving to South Lake Tahoe. In addition to teaching skiing at Heavenly, she also competed for the Bell Aqua water ski club in Sacramento while living in Tahoe. There were no children from their 7-year marriage.
Loree moved to Santa Barbara, where she worked in the Health & Fitness industry while earning a BA in Chemical Dependency Studies, and in 1989, graduated with an MA in Clinical Psychology, both from Antioch University. In 1991, she earned her California Clinical Licensure as a Marriage, Family and Child Counselor. She had a career with the County of Santa Barbara Mental Health Services as a Mental Health Practitioner. She loved Santa Barbara and enjoyed the diversity of life it offered.
Loree retired and returned to Ct to be near her father in his later years. They had traveled together previously and now spent time together in the summers at Cooperstown and in a multitude of pursuits around the Farmington Valley.
Loree was predeceased by her mother Margaret (Rogers) and her father Robert. She is survived by her brother William Hintermister (The Woodlands, TX) and Robert Hintermeister (Terri Goodman, Sydney & Hans) of Avon, CO.
