Lola's obituary

Lola Juanita Baker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, friend, and P.E.O. member passed away August 12, 2021 at Cox South Hospital after having a massive stroke.

Mrs. Baker was born Lola Juanita Criss to Henry and Allie Criss in 1921 in Rosebud, West Virginia. She was very active in church and an active member of P.E.O. She married Paul Baker on June 20th, 1941. After Sharon and Kathy graduated from college, Lola and Paul discovered the thrill of travel by air, train, boat, bus, and car. When Paul found a deal to someplace, they were off to find an adventure. This was their passion until Paul’s journey with Alzheimer’s took the joy of life from both of them after 67 years of marriage. She loved everyone she met and was known for dressing up and wearing jewelry. Everyone described her as a very sophisticated sweetheart with a heart of gold. She loved and was loved by so many.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Ann Billingsley, her grandchildren, John Paul Billingsley, Stephen Billingsley, and Lance Stafford, ten great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her late husband, Paul McCoy Baker, her brother, Arthur Clyde Criss, her sister, Loretta Jean Reese, and her daughter, Kathryn Stafford.

Mrs. Baker’s burial service will be held at a future date at Camp Butler Military Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
