Lois's obituary

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Lois I. Drabot on April 26th, surrounded by her family.

Lois was a 40-year resident of Richboro, PA and an active member of St. Vincent de Paul church. Lois was the daughter of Dave and Betty Fray, wife of Dave Drabot, mother to Rachael (Drabot) Lopez and Elizabeth (Drabot) Carra, sister to Catherine LaRue, Barbara Burkhart, Ann Shiffer, and Davie Fray (deceased). She was the sister-law to Michael Drabot, Jim Burkhart, Tom Shiffer (deceased) and Jack LaRue (deceased).

In her early years, Lois lived a great childhood with her parents and sisters in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She talked often about her summer vacations in Ocean City, New Jersey and the traditions of summer beach visits. Her parents were both educators in the West Chester area. Lois graduated from Lock Haven University with a BA with a concentration in language arts. Lois was a serious student during her college years, but she made time to serve as president of her sorority. It was at Lock Haven that she met Dave, and they eventually married and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. After graduation, Lois took advanced language courses at West Chester University and also studied abroad in France and parts of South America in preparation for her entry into the French and Spanish language teaching ranks.

Lois spent the next 24 years teaching foreign languages in the Council Rock School District. Throughout her teaching career, Lois and her colleagues supplemented the classroom language experience for their students by organizing a variety of cultural events. They organized a program that helped many hundreds of Council Rock students travel internationally. They also structured a student exchange program that was well received by families in Bucks County and many parts of France and Spain. Whenever there were cultural activities in Philadelphia, the teachers helped their students gain from those opportunities.

Along life's journey, Lois made time to volunteer for a variety of activities. She was a lector at St. Vincent, a member of the choir and a member of the CCD program. Early on, Lois and Dave also fostered newborns for Catholic Social Services and Lois volunteered with La Leche League helping first time mothers.

In their retirement years, Lois and Dave were able to travel internationally. Lois especially enjoyed cruises that included either family members or lifelong friends.

While Lois was a great mom, a wonderful wife, and a cheer leader for her sons-in-law Eddie Lopez and Peter Carra, she truly loved being a grandmother. She was born to be a grandmother. She wore her grandmother nickname of Meme with great pride and endless joy. She deeply loved her six grands, Tessa, Christian, Lincoln, Brielle, Alexandria, and Chelsea. She followed their daily lives closely and was always there to support them in their various pursuits. She cultivated a special bond with each grandchild. Along the way, she greatly admired how her two daughters transformed themselves into expert mothers. Her only regret is that she could not fight hard enough to see her grands become young adults. She assured them that she is now their guardian angel.

Lois was one of those people who made friends easily because she took the time to learn about a person and to exchange stories of joy and happiness with all around her. Many of her friendships spanned more than 50 years. She was deeply thankful for their support and often commented that those friendships made the last 18 months of her life's journey tolerable.

In the final weeks of Lois's treatments, Lois and Dave became aware of the importance of blood and blood byproducts in support of patients being treated for blood cancers. In lieu of flowers, Lois has requested that we raise awareness to the importance of blood donations. Whether it is in the form of direct blood donation, a financial donation, or information sharing, those actions will have a significant impact on someone's battle.

A mass will be celebrated on May 29th at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Richboro. A luncheon at Northampton Valley Country Club will follow. All are welcome to attend.
