Lisa's obituary
Lisa Ann Stephen passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, shortly after her 64th birthday. Lisa lived a life full of kindness, bravery, and an unwavering commitment to caring for others. Known for her quiet strength and generosity, Lisa had a profound impact on the lives of those who were fortunate to know her.
Lisa is survived by her loving daughter, Laura, and mourned by myriad family, including siblings Gordon, Ian (Cary), Cam (Natalie), and Duncan (Michelle), their children, as well as many friends, colleagues, and her cherished church community. She was predeceased by her mother, Winnifred Marguerite Gunn, and her father, John Cameron Stephen.
Lisa was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. During her early years, her family relocated to British Columbia. After graduating from Carson Graham Secondary School in North Vancouver, Lisa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Education, both from the University of Windsor.
Lisa's education served her well in her career as an employment coach, trainer, and consultant, through which she positively impacted the lives of many people. Most recently, she applied her professional skills and knowledge to support Métis people to pursue their career and educational goals, as a member of Métis Nation BC’s Skills Training, Employment & Post Secondary (STEPS) team.
One of Lisa’s proudest accomplishments was serving on the Board of Elders at Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship. Lisa was a woman of faith, and she found great satisfaction in giving back to the church community that gave her so much. Lisa saw the Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship’s commitments to peace, social justice, and reconciliation as tangible expressions of her deeply held beliefs.
Lisa's caring nature extended far beyond her personal network. She was a steadfast advocate for those less fortunate and used her intelligence and training to make a difference in countless lives. Even though Lisa is no longer with us, her legacy carries on in the lives she touched. The lessons she imparted, particularly her emphasis on caring for the less fortunate and walking softly on the earth, will continue to inspire and guide those who knew her. Lisa was the source of much laughter through sharing stories and her quiet but wicked sense of humour. Her zest for life naturally brought joy to all situations. Lisa’s warmth, joy, curiosity, and caring nature will forever be remembered.
In memory of Lisa and her unwavering commitment to helping others, her loved ones are encouraged to honour her by extending compassion and support to those in need. In doing so, we can ensure that Lisa's legacy continues to make a difference in the world. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Foundation, or causes near and dear to Lisa’s heart (e.g., environmental, refugee settlement, and humanitarian organizations), are also welcomed.
A memorial service will be held at Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship (1160 Lansdowne Drive, Coquitlam, BC) on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. Watch here for the time and further details.
