Lisa's obituary
Lisa Rochelle Rossiter-Brewer was born on October 9, 1965, in Berkeley, CA, to Dolores (Ludy) and
Tom Rossiter, Jr. She was their cherished only child and the first granddaughter on her mother's
side of the family. Lisa was the apple of Ludy's eye, and both Ludy and her mother, affectionately
known as "Mutha," showered her with love and attention. To them, Lisa could do no wrong, and they
fiercely defended her against any detractors.
Lisa attended Oakland Public Schools in West Oakland and graduated from McClymonds High
School in 1983, where she demonstrated academic excellence as valedictorian and student body
president for the class best known as "Class of AD3," which continues to keep in touch to this day.
She then attended the University of California, Irvine, later transferring to Cal State East Bay and
graduating with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Psychology.
Lisa was a trendsetter, earning best dressed as a senior class superlative. She was always
coordinated and dressed to the nines, and you better believe she was not going to leave the
house without perfume, earrings, and lipstick. Lisa's first job was at the East Bay
Conservation Corps in Oakland, which she started at the age of 19 and where she dedicated
over 20 years of service. In 1987, she married the love of her life, Robert Damon Brewer. To
this union, three children were born: Joshua Damon, Zakiyyah Iman, and Xavior Damon. Lisa
sacrificed everything for and committed everything to her children. Her consistency, demand
for excellence, and unwavering love and affection were immeasurable and evident in each of
her children.
Lisa gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a longstanding member of First African
Methodist Episcopal Church in Oakland for over 20 years, where she served on the finance
committee and sang in the choir. In 2023, she began worshipping with and joined Jubilare
Evangelistic Ministries, where she worshipped by livestream while battling health challenges,
and in-person when she was able. She would tell everyone about how funny Pastor Walton is
and how he makes everything so plain.
Lisa was such a beautiful spirit. When you think of her, you immediately think of her smile,
her glow, and the love she exuded to all those around her. She wanted the best for all of her
friends and loved ones. She was everyone's biggest cheerleader. She was the greatest gift- giver,
which was her ultimate love language, and no one can bake a cake like she could, a gift that
was passed to her from her mother.
On Thursday, April 25, 2024, Lisa was called into eternity. She leaves to cherish her loving
memory her children, Zakiyyah Iman and Xavior Damon; mother-in-law, Margie Williams of
Oakland, CA; sisters-in-law, Sherilyn Kirkendoll (Steve) of Oakland, CA, Angela Brewer
(Robert) of Patterson, CA, Robyn Williams of Elk Grove, CA; brothers-in-law, James Brewer
III of Oakland, CA, William Brewer of Stockton, CA, Jonathan Brewer (Stephanie) of Elk
Grove, CA; godchildren, Naajy Bynum-Bey, Zaria Walton and Jamil Bennett; a host of aunts,
