Lisa's obituary
Lisa Rae McGonegal returned home September 27th, 2024 at the age of 58 after a valiant 5 year battle against ovarian cancer. Lisa was born in Juneau Alaska where she met her husband of 37 years, Scot McGonegal. Lisa always considered Juneau home, but found a love for the sunshine and changing seasons of Utah.
Lisa had a strong relationship with God and her savior, Jesus Christ. She strived to live as Christ did throughout her life. Lisa’s favorite quote and mantra for living was by Gordon B Hinckley:
“In all of living, have much fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured.”
Lisa was the ultimate gift giver and loved shopping with someone in mind. She was known for her “sunshine baskets” which consisted of any and all things yellow and cheerful. They were to be given to anyone she knew could use a little pick me up. She kept small gift bags with hygiene supplies, snacks and dog food in her car just in case she saw a homeless person or pet in need while running errands.
If anyone ever knew how to throw a party, Lisa did. Her daughters would say “Mom doesn’t throw parties, she creates experiences.” From baby showers, to long weeks at Lake Powell, to many holiday traditions- Lisa never missed a detail and nothing was ever too extravagant. She enjoyed traveling to new places with the people she loves; often drawn to the water for kayaking, snorkeling or a walk on the beach.
Lisa was a loving dog mom, mother, grandmother, wife, sister, friend, aunt and daughter. She enjoyed the simple things- skiing and boating with her friends and family, getting pedicures with her girls, driving to Maverick for a Diet Coke.
Lisa loved to work hard and it showed in her success as an IFBB pro natural body builder, competing many years on Team USA. She enjoyed working out with friends, training others, being active and eating well.
Lisa loved time spent with friends and family, playing pickle ball and walking dogs. But her favorite time spent was doing crafts and playing at the pool with her grandkids. Lisa loved being a grandma, or as she preferred, a Glamma (glamorous grandma).
Lisa is survived by her dog Rigby; her husband Scot; her three children, Lynnsey Loepker (Seth), Kassie McAdams (Brett), Marshall McGonegal (Jen); her 6 grandchildren; her mother, Ardyce Marshall; her brother, Jon Marshall; and her sister, Laurie Marshall. She is preceded in death by her father Raymond Marshall and two dogs Lexi and Ryekley.
A family graveside service will be held at the Meadow View Cemetery in Eden, Ut.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 6th at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Huntsville Mercantile, 7390 East 200 South.
Per Lisa’s request, in lieu of flowers please make donations to The Lantern House or Utah’s Humane Society.
