Lisa's obituary
Lisa was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was always ready, willing, and able to pitch in when help was needed, and loved making people feel happy and at home no matter who they were. She had boundless energy and ran circles around most people. Lisa loved to laugh! She had an incredible sense of humor, quick wit and loved to make those around her laugh with her mischievous nature and silly jokes.
Lisa loved all aspects of life and especially loved the simple things: being surrounded by beauty, planting flowers in her backyard, taking long drives, listening to music, reading Danielle Steele novels, watching her favorite shows, making goofy voices at her favorite pets (Pebbles, Little Girl, and “her grandcat” Nate) and enjoying quiet nights at home. But mostly, she loved spending time with family and friends: get-togethers at local restaurants, dinners at mom's house, parties at Nick's house, talking with Kevin after work, flying to Bellingham to watch Kandace's plays, and spending time with Jack Wong of Daly City, her partner of 10 years.
Lisa graduated from Presentation High School and spent her career as a corporate travel counselor. Lisa always knew the best travel secrets and took pride in making her clients’ travel experiences positive and stress-free. For the last few years, she enjoyed working at her home office and looking out at her garden while booking travel. In her younger years, Lisa also worked at the family restaurant, Tico’s Tacos on 4th Street in Downtown San Jose.
Lisa was a bright light! She had a big personality and was silly and fun to be around. She was a free spirit and loved nothing more than a spontaneous adventure with her family. As a travel agent, she loved discovering new hotels, enjoying room service and her favorite drink: a vodka martini, up, extra dirty, with two blue cheese olives.
She was also a force to be reckoned with. Lisa was strong and independent, and a fierce mama bear to her children Kandace and Kevin. She raised her children as a single mother, and her unconditional love helped them grow and thrive. Lisa had a strong voice, clear morals, and was unafraid to fight for what was right in the world and to protect her family.
Lisa was the youngest daughter of Louis M. Hevia (d. 1998) and Josephine Hevia. She was sister of Louis Hevia Jr. of Salinas, Annette Hevia Phillips of Arizona City, AZ, Lawrence S. Hevia, Lorraine Hevia O'Dea and Yvonne Hevia Fennell of San Jose, CA, and David Hevia of Scotts Valley, CA. She was wife to Joseph P. Arens (d. 2003), and mother to Kandace Arens McGowan of Bellingham, WA and Kevin Arens of San Jose, CA.
A Celebration of Life for Lisa will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at the Adobe Lodge on campus of Santa Clara University from 2pm to 5pm. Lisa loved people. We hope everyone that knew and loved her will attend to share memories and celebrate her bright spirit. All are welcome. We invite anyone who wishes to speak and share a memory to do so.
