Linda's obituary
Linda Ann was born on January 14, 1937 to Mary Jane and Lester Stout. She grew up in Wooster, OH, on a farm that was a land grant passed down through her family for generations. The house she grew up in was originally a 2-story log cabin that her grandmother lived in, built by hand with a mixture of horsehair and mud in between the large wood logs. The house is a historical landmark; it and the land remain in the family, owned by her younger sister Nancy Likens and many of Nancy’s children and grandchildren live on the property.
As a young girl growing up on a farm, Linda, preferred playing piano, singing and reading than feeding the chickens or working in the numerous gardens. She told us that she would play with and train the pigs to do tricks only to be broken hearted when they would disappear, never to return. She also didn’t like to get dirty; the farm life just wasn’t for her.
She became a very talented piano player and had a beautiful singing voice. She loved singing and sang solos in her high school choir.
She graduated from Wooster High School in 1955 and went on to study Education at Kent State University. There she met the Love of her Life, Robert (Bob) Frank Bremkamp on a fluke blind date that almost never happened. Linda and Robert were married on August 8, 1959. They remained married for over 60 years, and they truly were a match made in Heaven!
Linda taught middle school in Strongsville, Oh, Doylestown, Oh and Crescent City, Fl. She had a strong love of history and traveling; she would integrate these loves into her teaching and use them to excite her students over the 33 years she was a teacher. She instilled this love of travel in us three daughters who were fortunate to go on adventurous vacations every summer.
Linda and Robert Bremkamp lived in Wadsworth, Oh for 25 years where they raised their three daughters and were very active in the community. Linda was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Wadsworth band boosters, Rawiga Country Club, to name a few.
Linda and Robert moved to Palatka, Fl in 1991, they loved living in the beautiful community and made many close friends. Linda especially enjoyed being a part of the St. James Methodist choir, and The Redeemers where she and Bob sang and sang and sang! She was very active in One Book Putnam, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and GFWC Woman’s Club of Palatka where she served on many committees and was president for two terms. As part of the GFWC she was always volunteering and cooking loads of delicious food to raise money for charities. Linda was nominated for Volunteer of the Year in Putnam County. One charity close to her heart was GFWC scholarships which are provided yearly to deserving students.
Linda had an especially soft spot in her heart for cats, she was always feeding strays and taking them in to get vaccinated. She and Bob volunteered to bring their American Bobtail, Cinnamon, to visit Solaris (formally Palatka Health Care). It was a monthly highlight for many residents as they looked forward to cuddling with Linda’s sweet soft gentle kitty to lift their spirits. A book was written about Cinnamon with Linda and Bob featured in the illustrations.
Linda is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert F Bremkamp, her two sisters: Nancy Likens and Judy McIntire, her three daughters: Cynthia Woolbright, Teresa Morris Chupp and Victoria Mymudes, and her seven grandchildren: Robert Woolbright, Jocelyn Woolbright, Alexis Morris, Richard Morris, Luke Morris, Jared Mymudes and Justin Mymudes.
There will be a Celebration of Life Ceremony at St. James United Methodist Church (400 Reid Street, Palatka, Fl) on Saturday November 23, 2019 at 2:00pm with wonderful food and company to follow. We hope that you will join us!
