Linda passed away on May 23, 2023 with her loving family at her side in her Elgin, IL home of 31 years. She was born to Irving and Grace McEwan on September 29, 1946 in Chicago. The family later moved to West Chicago, where Linda grew up with her younger brother, Richard, and a large extended family close by.

As a life-long learner, Linda earned degrees from Elmhurst College, Rosary College (now Dominican University) and Northern Illinois. She also attended numerous classes at other institutions throughout her life. Linda worked as a librarian at Elgin Community College's Renner Learning Resources Center for 38 years. She loved her career and all the people she met through her work.

After retiring in 2008, she devoted much of her time to her favorite hobby, knitting, and spending time with fellow knitting friends on a regular basis. She also took up pottery, travelled, and spent time with family. Linda was also an active and devoted member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a nursing home visitor, a knitter of prayer shawls, helping with Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and more.

Throughout her life, Linda shared her home and love not only with cats she adopted from local shelters, but also with family during times of transition. Both her nephew, Sean, and her niece, Erin, (and their cats) lived with Linda at different times after graduating college and deciding to move to the Chicago area.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Grace McEwan.

She is survived by her brother, Richard McEwan, his wife Deborah, their children Sean (Carrie) and Erin (Christopher), and her beloved cat Oscar. We miss her greatly.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on June 17, 2023 at St. Thomas More (215 Thomas More Drive, Elgin) with visitation beginning at 10am.
