Frequently asked questions

Answered by a team member at The Andrew Keegan Theatre Company

  • What is your mission?

To take audiences to the vital heart of the theater experience: extraordinary artists in an intimate setting exploring the human condition. To foster connections and positive change in our community through vigorous, inclusive, empowering education and outreach.

  • How are donations used?

Your support will help provide area youth with theatrical experiences, aid in the development of new works of theatrical art, and fund initiatives to expand access to the arts from our Dupont Circle home.

  • What can be done with a $100 donation?

$100 will cover the cost for two KeeganConnects tickets, allowing low-income individuals to attend a production at no cost.

  • What progress has been made already thanks to your donors?

Support from donors like you has allowed us to continue to subsidize the cost of tickets and opportunities for a greater number of D.C. area residents who otherwise would not be able to participate, empower D.C.-based artists to create more inspired, award-worthy work, and continue to make improvements to our Dupont Circle home where we elevate the voices of today and tomorrow.

  • What is the history of your organization?

Founded in 1996, Keegan launched its first season with a production of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF at Dupont Circle’s Church Street Theatre in 1997. Keegan’s founding members envisioned a theater company that would reflect a spirit of collaboration and authentic storytelling. Keegan’s early productions quickly earned significant patron support and critical acclaim. In the 29 years since, our productions and artists have received more than 123 Theatre Washington Helen Hayes Award nominations and 25 awards. In 2015, Keegan opened our own theater building, which was purchased with the help of an anonymous donor and extensively renovated with the support of a successful capital campaign. Today, we make a vibrant impact in D.C. and beyond, providing a gathering space for residents and visitors to converge and connect. This “hidden gem” (Washingtonian) has a “big local impact” (Washington Business Journal), eaching up to 15,000 visitors annually. Keegan has a long-held commitment to expanding access to theater, improving the quality of life for residents and visitors, creating meaningful experiences for all ages, empowering voices from underrepresented groups on our stage, and sparking conversations through our programming.
