Linda's obituary
Linda C. Exman, of New York, New York, died on Monday November 17 2025 at the age of 90, surrounded by family.
Linda was born on December 12, 1934 in New York to the late Bernard Williams Cohen and Dorothy Jarcho Cohen. She grew up in Scarsdale with a lifelong love of books, theater, museums, and the arts. Her curiosity and enthusiasm for learning shaped everything she did. She was a Class of ‘56 graduate of Smith College and remained an active supporter throughout her life.
Linda spent many years sharing her passions with the people she loved most. She loved when family and friends joined her on adventures throughout Manhattan—shopping, visiting museums, attending Broadway musicals, and enjoying afternoon tea at her favorite spots. Her home was filled with books, warmth, memories, and thoughtful traditions. Perhaps her crowning achievement was founding New York is Book Country” and leading this street fair as President for 25 years. She even authored and published a book about it.
She loved to travel, especially to London, where she explored markets, art, and shows. Linda had a generous spirit and a talent for opening the world to others, often offering guidance, encouragement, and connections that helped shape their lives. Her joy with the printed word led her to donate her time to help struggling children read.
Linda is survived by her sister Jacqueline Cohen Kay, her nephews Steven Kay (wife Holly), Ronald Kay, Brian Kay, nieces Betsy Bach and Bonnie Katz (husband, Herb), great-niece Kim Martinez Rahmel (husband Alex) and great-nephews David Bach, Steven Bach (wife Sara), Daniel Bach and many friends who will miss her dearly.
To know Linda was to be welcomed into a world of imagination, learning, and adventure. Her family will always cherish her energy, her wisdom, and the many memories she created with them.
