Lillie Kathryn Hamrick Hilts was born in West Virginia on January 23, 1944, to parents Virgil Hamrick and Frances Brooks. She attended Stonewall Jackson High School, where she was a proud member of the Female Gens, and later earned her degree from Alderson Broaddus University.
