Lillian's obituary

Lillian Cora Alice Lopez Alvarez, age 76 passed away on Labor Day September 4th. She was surrounded by her family and friends on this clear blue summer day.

Lillian was born October 20th, 1946 at the Embudo Hospital in Northern New Mexico. Her parents were Melendrino and Adelina R. Lopez. She was the youngest of twelve children and grew up in the little village of Chamisal where her father was a Pastor.

Lillian was a graduate of Menaul High school class of 1965 here in Albuquerque. Later she continued her education at UNM where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1974. She worked as an elementary school teacher for APS for 25 years. Meanwhile she was also kept busy raising two girls.

Lillian loved her family. She was known for her generosity, her thoughtfulness and her fun-loving ways. She was blessed for having enjoyed being a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother.

She was very close to her siblings and through the years spent many happy occasions and holiday gatherings with them. Some activities she enjoyed were reading, playing board games, dominos, and watching her favorite game shows. She loved crafting and had a talent for making beaded jewelry and origami. She enjoyed thrifting with her sisters. Also, sisters Rose, Louisa, and Lillian liked playing the slots.

Her special talent was dancing. Her sister Rose and her were performers of Ballet Folklorico for several years. Lillian was known for her warm greetings, her wit, and her hugs and also for spontaneously dancing when the spirit moved her.

Lillian is survived by sisters Rose and Emily and brother Raymond, her daughter Melissa and husband Erik, and her daughter Andrea and husband Charlie. Also, she is survived by four grandchildren, Gabriella, Stephen, Carissa, and Marisa, and three great grandchildren Katie, Riley and Moses. Grandma Lillian was affectionately known as “Nana.”

“Nana” will dearly be missed. She was always there for her family no matter what the need. We will be remembering her warmth and beautiful smile. We shall regret not having more time with her, however her love and kindness shall live on in our hearts. And now we trust that she is reuniting with the Lord and with all of her family and friends that went before her.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Friday October 6th at Don Newton – Taylor Ranch Community Center 4900 Kachina St. NW.
