Mrs. Lessie Hooks was born on February 2, 1944, in Albany, Georgia, to the late Lessie McIntyre and the late Booker T. Washington, Sr. In 1956, following the passing of her beloved mother, the family relocated to Tampa, Florida, where she attended the local schools of Hillsborough County.
Lessie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her life was marked by kindness, strength, and a deep love for her family. She touched many hearts with her gentle spirit and unwavering faith.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Anderson, sisters Irene McMillan and Verdell Harris, and brother George Washington.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories:
Her devoted husband Raymond Hooks;
Children — Bernard Anderson (Jeannette), Sheryl Paris (Ronnie), Elonda Young (Kenneth), Matthew Dix (Regina), Andrew Anderson (Valerie), and Joe Anderson.
She leaves to cherish 3 siblings.
Her cherished grandchildren: Natasha Young (Carlos), Kenneth Young, Jr. (Kayla), Kelvin Harris, Ieesha (Dominic), Lessie Allen (Ricky), Craneisha Tuten (Jamal), Ronika Paris, Cherelle Paris, Frances Paris, Carmel Paris, Ronnie Paris, Jr., Darren Williams (Kelli), Kayla Sconiers (Kenneth), Matthew Dix, Jr., Rayon Dix, Uriel Dix, Lashawnda Anderson, Jo-Quinsa Anderson, Deborah Anderson, Jovonta Anderson, Remiz Anderson, Derrall Anderson, Quincina Marshall, Jerald Anderson, and Ekecia Anderson.
Her adored great-grandchildren: Gregory Thompson, Antonio Adkins, Zya Young, Samahre Styles, Kayleyona Dennis, D’Waun Carmichael and a host of loving 2nd and 3rd generation grandchildren who will forever carry her love in their hearts.
Rest assured in knowing “Mrs. Lessie loved EVERYBODY”
On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Mrs. Lessie Hooks answered her Master’s call and peacefully transitioned from labor to reward. Her soul is now resting in the arms of the Lord.
