Pops's obituary
06/07/41 – 11/09/23
Leslie Johnson was born June 7th 1941 to George and Lily Johnson of Raymond, Arkansas. He had two sisters Marie & Shirley and two brothers Bobby and David.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his wife, the late Derothy Spencer Johnson, a daughter Shelley Michelle Johnson Foster (Sissy), three grandchildren Ronnie Poteet, Tracy Lee Davis, Margie Michelle Clinton (Patty) and a great granddaughter Shaneah Self.
He is survived by his nine children Margie Self, Carl Charlton, Brinda Strong, Sheila Jenkins, James William (JW) Johnson, David Johnson, Tracy Johnson & Leslie (George) Johnson Jr. along with several grand and great grandchildren.
Les was the provider for his family and worked numerous jobs doing building construction and roofing. He was a master carpenter/ roofer yet modestly accepted the title of ‘jack of all trades, master of some’.
Les grew up to be the cowboy his favorite country music singer, Waylon Jennings warned momma’s about. Derothy Jean Johnson fell in love with his silly cowboy ways and they married on December 23rd, 1960.
Pops enjoyed spending time with his family and watching westerns. He started most days with a cup of coffee and a cigarette. He said he’d been smoking since he was three. He loved sitting outside and watching the traffic go by. Waving at some and giving others the finger.. Lol.
Other days he’d sit inside and watch his favorite shows and sometimes he even gave the commercial announcer the bird.. He loved to reminisce about the good old days with anyone who would listen. He always had a cute joke to share when guest would stop by. He never turned anyone away who needed help and most of his friends quickly became family.
Pops will be missed by his children and numerous other family members and friends.
We love you Pops… until we meet again.
