Les was a very special man. He was in many ways an “old guard” guy, he loved hunting and fishing, loved a good cigar with a smoky Scotch, and he loved being a police officer, and a Navy Seal; most of all, he loved being a husband and father. He told me so many hilarious stories about the early years with his lovely wife, Nancy. How they would play practical jokes on each other and tease. They laughed together a lot and they raised three amazing kids. Les and I met when I transferred up to take over as the district manager at Smart & Final in the city of San Francisco. He came across as a stubborn smart-ass knowitall, but I soon found out that the only thing true was that he was stubborn as heck. We became friends within a week or two and remained friends for over 20 years. I loved him more than I can ever say, and I miss him so much. There’s a void that can’t be filled.
