LeRoy's obituary

LeRoy Windsor Harris, known to all as Roy, passed away on March 29, 2025, in Bedford, Texas, at the age of 56.

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on June 11, 1968, Roy grew up with a spirit of curiosity and a drive for adventure. He attended Trafton Academy, now known as The Dunham School, where he made his mark as a strong safety on the football team and a sprinter in track, running the 200-meter dash.

Following his school years, Roy's life and career were as vibrant and wide-ranging as his personality. After moving to Austin, Texas, Roy worked as a paramedic and bartender before stepping into finance as a mortgage broker. During this time, he started a family and began the pattern of chasing new opportunities wherever they led.

Roy later returned to Baton Rouge, where he opened his own mortgage office and founded a production company, working as a movie producer before finding his true calling as a skilled locations manager in the film industry. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to build businesses from the ground up, from health and wellness ventures to developing the first trash transfer station in Baton Rouge — a project so bold it inspired changes to local law. Throughout his life, Roy was a man who made things happen.

Roy was passionate about flying airplanes, fast cars, and motorcycles — though he gave up riding after a serious accident at 18 nearly took his life. He loved pushing the limits, but above all, he loved his children and family fiercely. Known for his quick wit and trickster humor, Roy was a master of riddles, laughter, and quiet mischief. Beneath his playful exterior was a heart full of love and a mind always searching for truth. In the later years of his life, Roy’s faith deepened. A devoted Christian, he often spoke about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, never losing touch with his Methodist roots. His charisma, kindness, and authenticity left a lasting impression on everyone he met. So many who knew him remember him not only for his laughter, but as one of the finest people they ever had the blessing to know.

Roy is survived by his children: Andi, Phoenix, and Trinity; his granddaughter, Ophelia; his siblings, Rebecca and Lyttleton; and his father, Milton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sheila, and is remembered fondly by his extended family and countless friends.

A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in The Colony, Texas. Fittingly, the service will take place on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. A reception will follow at the home of his son, Phoenix.

Roy's life was a tapestry of daring adventures, unshakable love, and fearless pursuit of the next great journey. Now, his final and greatest journey carries him home. His legacy lives on in the laughter, courage, and faith of those who knew and loved him.
