Leroy's obituary
Leroy Allen Bell passed into the arms of his Heavenly Father on December 26, 2024 in Santa Clarita, CA at age 91, under hospice care. The family would like to commend the excellent care & love that he received from A Mystical Rose Villa, specifically from Eddie, Whinnie and Lys.
Lee was born on March 1, 1933, in Portland, Maine, son of Maisie Florence nee Adams.
After Lee served 2 years in the Air Force during the Korean War, he returned to civilian life and was an aeronautical engineer in the Los Angeles area. He worked for Hycon Manufacturing as well as Lockheed. While living in L.A., Lee joined an Inglewood Park & Recreation District social club called "The Ingle-Airs", run by the late Louis B. Mathern. Lee still maintained friendships with many friends from those days. All three of Lee's children bear the names of precious friends from the Ingle-Airs. But the most important person Lee met while involved with Ingleaires was Alice Loraine Matthews, a life-long California girl from the Redwood area of Garberville. They were married on April 8, 1961, at "The Little Church Around the Corner" in Inglewood, and settled in the San Gabriel Valley community of La Puente. Daughter Linda Loraine was born in 1962 followed by son Frank Louis in 1965, and finally Glenna Ruth in 1973.
In 1963 Lee and Alice moved to Glendora, CA, where they resided until 1980. It was during these years that Lee and Alice accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior. They were very active and faithful members of the Covina Evangelical Free Church and served the Lord there for many years and in several capacities, gaining some of their most precious Christian friends during this time. In 1980, they moved to Lake Arrowhead and were active members at Twin Peaks Community Church as well as Rim of the World Community Church in Running Springs where they again made precious lasting friendships with fellow believers. After a brief stay in Redlands, Lee and Alice moved to the High Desert in 1996, first to Victorville and finally to Apple Valley. Lee & Alice became faithful members of Victor Valley Bible Church, Victorville, CA. After Alice passed away in 2009, Lee remained at VVBC. In 2019 he moved to Santa Clarita, CA, near his daughter Glenna. He attended Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, CA, as well as Santa Clarita Baptist Church. He also volunteered at Grace To You Ministries in Santa Clarita.
After his aeronautical engineering days, Lee became very involved in real estate as an agent/broker, land development pursuits and numerous residential construction projects in Glendora, San Dimas, Lake Arrowhead, and the High Desert. He owned San Dimas Lumber Company for a time. He was also very active in the San Dimas Chamber of Commerce, the San Dimas Festival of Western Arts, and was Chairman of the Board at Rancho Bank in San Dimas for many years. Lee was also involved in the Crestline (CA) Chamber of Commerce and helped facilitate the build of a large mini-storage complex in Crestline.
He was very proud to have served one year on the San Bernardino County Civil Grand Jury, 2018-2019, serving on the committees for Regional Parks and Prisons/Jails. He was an active volunteer and avid fan of Apple Valley Little League & AAE (Lewis Center) Baseball in Apple Valley, CA, cheering for his grandson Jacob and helping maintain the fields before the games. He never missed a game and even rode on the bus for away games.
Leroy is predeceased by his beloved wife, Alice Loraine Matthews Bell (1937-2009), and his brothers George Bell, Arthur Bell, and Kenneth Bryant. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Bell, Glenna Andersen (Rodney), his son, Frank Bell (Anna), and his sisters Marion Davidson and Anna Parkes. His brother, Stanley Sargent (Patty), also survives him.
Loving memories of Lee (aka Papa/Pop) will be cherished by his six grandchildren: Jacob (Charity), Ian (Hannah), Amy, Lea, Danielle (Chris), and Britany (Chris). He also leaves his ten great-grandchildren: Elias, Audriana, Mason, Piper, Oakley, Paityn, Emma, Payton, Cade, & Harlow.
His life will be commemorated during a memorial service to be held on January 30, 2025, at 10:30am at Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, CA. We invite those who shared in Lee’s life to join us in celebrating his memory and hearing the Gospel message as he requested. An outdoor reception with light refreshments will be held immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Lee’s name to Victor Valley Bible Church, P.O.
