Dan's obituary
In Loving Memory of Leonard Daniel "Dan" Bowman
January 14, 1956 - July 5, 2023
Leonard Daniel Bowman, known to all as Dan, was born on January 14, 1956, in Orange, California. He passed away on July 5, 2023, in Brea, California, at the age of 67, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dan is survived by his older sister, Deborah, and her children Lanora, Blaine, Christina, Julia, and their children. He leaves behind his younger brother, Jason, and his daughters. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard A Bowman, and his mother, Gladys E Bowman (nee Yowell).
A cremation service was held at Omega Society. In honor of Dan's love for sports, a group will attend a USC game on September 9, 2023, followed by a celebration of his life on September 10, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Yardhouse in Brea.
Dan's journey began in Fullerton, California, where he graduated from Fullerton High School. He worked at Hughes Aircraft, which later became Raytheon, until his retirement in 2018. He built a vast network of lifelong friendships and unforgettable experiences. Despite his strong and direct personality, Dan genuinely cared for the well-being of his friends and family. His caring and generous spirit radiated through thoughtful gestures, frequently bringing food for coworkers, treating friends to meals and drinks at cherished local spots, and readily aiding those in need.
His larger-than-life personality endeared him as a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews on the opposite coast. Every visit to California or the East Coast was filled with joy and excitement in the company of Uncle Dan.
Sports held a special place in Dan's heart, actively participating in the Hughes softball league as both a player and umpire. He proudly held partial season tickets for the LA Angels, LA Dodgers, and USC Trojans football games. Among his proudest moments was witnessing the Angels clinch the championship during the 2002 MLB World Series.
Dan's commitment to health and fitness allowed him to keep pace with those many years his junior, enjoying pickup basketball games, the gym, and surfing in Newport Beach.
Dan's adventurous spirit extended to playing the Lotto, and he took the initiative to organize work Lotto pools. Even during his time in the hospital, he would direct others on which tickets to purchase for him, reflecting his hope and enthusiasm for life.
Leonard Daniel Bowman will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His vibrant spirit, love for sports, infectious personality, youthful heart, and unwavering courage in the face of cancer will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.
Rest in peace, Dan.
