Len's obituary

Lennart “Len” Lundh, 77, of Orland Hills, Illinois, quietly passed away on February 1, 2026 after a short battle with cancer.

Len was born on August 15, 1948 to Carl and Asta Lundh of Burbank, Illinois. He married Linda “Lin” Scott on April 18, 1968 before heading to the Navy where he served 9 months just off shore of Vietnam. He was honorably discharged after two and a half years.

Len was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ed. He is survived by his wife Lin and daughters Lisa (Bobby) Lundh, Kim (John) Dunaj, and Kirsten (Dewain) Peterson. Grandchildren Mathew (Victoria) Lundh, Kevin (Makenna) Peterson, Patrick Dunaj, Rebecca (Cody) Dunaj, Nathan Peterson, and Lauren Peterson. Great-grandchildren Isabelle Lundh, Ryland Lundh, and Magnolia Peterson.

He will be forever remembered for his passion for his family, photography, writing, and history. He was a photographer, poet, historian, and short-fiction writer. His work in these areas has appeared internationally since 1965. Additionally, his art has served as cover and interior illustrations for some fifty books, anthologies, and journals. Over ten thousand of his documentary images reside in the permanent collections of military museums and fire department historians across the country.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring nurses and staff at Lightways Hospice Center, whose kindness, compassion, and loving support brought comfort and peace to Len and his family.

Len was also passionate about raising funds for St Baldrick. Every April for the last 10+ years he would write and share a daily poem, then publish them for all who donated to his fundraiser. Over the years $42,853 was raised. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Baldricks at https://www.stbaldricks.org/m…

Donations may also be made in his honor to Lightways Hospice Center in Joliet, Illinois.

A Celebration of Life will be held this Spring with details to be shared once arrangements are completed.

Any mailed donations or condolences should be sent in care of his daughter;
