Lenette's obituary
Dr. Lenette Burrell, Nursing Professor passed away in Macon on July 4th, 2023 with her daughters at her side.
Dr. Burrell lead a distinguished career that included being awarded the Silver Medallion by the Georgia Heart Association. She is the co-founder of the Northeast Georgia Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses in 1974, serving as President 1975-1976. Dr. Burrell is internationally recognized for her scholarship as the editor of the textbook, Adult Nursing in Hospital and Community Settings, and as co-editor of Intensive Nursing Care and Critical Care (translated into Spanish, Polish, and British). Additionally, Dr. Burrell was an invited member of the Critical Care Nursing Delegation to Russia and Hungary in 1992.
Dr. Burrell spent the majority of her teaching career at AU's Athens campus. To honor her “joy in teaching nursing students”, in 2009 her husband established the Dr. Lenette Burrell Nurse Educator Scholarship Endowment.
- Dr. Lenette Owens Burrell (age 96) reunited with her husband, soulmate and career partner, Zeb L. Burrell, MD. She is survived by her children Lee (Edye), Nance (Ronn), Valerie (Tony) and David (Missy), 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and countless other family, friends and colleagues.
Memorial services to be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Forest Ave, Elberton, Ga, July 23 at 2pm.
