My deepest condolences to all of Dr. Ostrander's family.  He was my masters degree mentor at RPI in 1991.  I worked at Castle Point VA Hospital on research projects with him and at the startup company he help found that worked on pulse oximetry, Lights On Technology.  Another fellow and I even lived  in his home while the company was getting started.  He was a fine man.  I remember the first day I meet him and I always had positive interactions with him.  I am a better person for having known him.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to all of Lee's family as well as friends, colleagues and students who will miss his unique and gifted presence in their lives.  He has made a significant contribution in his work and in his "play" - multiple side interests that kept him intellectually enlivened and satisfied his insatiable curiosity.  Special blessings on his children, Mandy, Madeline and Mark and his wife, Vicky.
