Leah's obituary
Leah Renee Layne Myers, age 52, of Sissonville / Charleston, WV passed away peacefully on April 30, 2023, at CAMC Charleston General STICU surrounded by her closest family members and loved ones.
Leah grew up in Sissonville WV, a place she loved and returned to live in again, later in life. She lived in the Trace Fork area of Charleston for many years prior to moving back to Sissonville.
Leah worked at a number of jobs in her life, but the most important "job" to her and the one she loved most was being a mother to her beloved son Chase Myers, and grandmother to Mason Myers. There was no one on earth who meant more to her than her "babies". She spent a period of years also providing final in-home care for her (former) father-in-law, Luther Wolfe, also of Sissonville, whom she loved dearly.
She worked hard nearly her entire adult life at area restaurants, through which she made many lifetime friends. She spent several years with Red Lobster and Longhorn Steakhouse of Charleston, as both server and bartender at times, as well as shorter stints with TopSpot, Olive Garden, O'Charleys, Cagney's, and others. In her younger years, she also tended bar at her father's establishment Johnny's Lounge of Sissonville.
Leah was a fun loving, strong, spirited and often times fearless girl at heart, who made friends with everyone she met. She also truly enjoyed being a "sport" mom during her son Chase's growing years, who was an avid moto-cross cyclist and played with the WV Wild travel hockey team for several years.
Leah will be dearly missed and always remembered by many...
Leah was predeceased by her mother Kay Haynes-Layne, father Johnie W. Layne, maternal grandparents, Lauretta & Ivan Haynes, paternal grandparents, Delphia & Howard Layne, beloved aunts Carmalee Haynes-Smith, Wilma (Clendenin-Haynes) Joslin and her former in-laws, Betty (Tackett) Wolfe & husband Luther Wolfe.
Leah is survived by her immediate family: her son, Chase Myers, grandson Mason Myers, sister Denise Layne, and brother John (Jay) Layne II, and several nieces, nephews, and their children.
Her final wishes were for cremation and to have her ashes scattered at the site of her beloved parents' burial site at Beane Cemetery, Sissonville, WV. In lieu of a traditional funeral service, the family has chosen to have a small informal celebration of her life to be held in her honor at a future date and time. Once scheduled, an update will be included here for all who wish to join us in remembering the life and love we shared for Leah.
Her family wishes to acknowledge and thank those who cared deeply and helped tremendously in the final months and time of Leah's illness and sudden passing, including our own angel-in-the-family, Karla Johnson Layne, and dearest of friends Natalie Edens Fisher, Jeff Edens, Karen Landers Beane, Bob Landers, Amy Beane. As well she would wish to include "B.C." whom Leah also loved and cared deeply for, up to her final time here.
