Lawrence's obituary

Lawrence Maurice Smith also known as "Bumpy" born March 14, 1964 in Newark, New Jersey and resided in Manchester Twp., New Jersey at the time of death. As the first son, grandson, and brother of the Smith family he played a very special role. He was the last child of Gene Smith and Lorraine Edwards. He loved his family passionately and prided himself as the protector.

He graduated from Irvington High School and then went into apprenticeship for Heavy Equipment Operations which he loved. A passionate man at whatever task was set before him in which he gave 100% of himself. A proud member of Prince Hall Masons Lodge 64 and Moose Lodge 266.

He loved to travel and go on cruises and was highly embraced by people he met along the way. To meet Lawrence was a lifelong friendship as he touched many people and kept in the heart of those he met in his life's journey. His laugh was infectious, considered larger than life to many as he asked for nothing and gave everything to put a smile on the faces of those around him.

Lawrence was blessed to know his gift was cooking. He took after and learned from his grandmother whom he loved dearly. He was fortunate to be able to live out his gift in this lifetime in which he prided himself on. He fed everyone from politicians to the homeless which brought him so much joy. Each summer he would donate his time to do for his community by throwing a community BBQ and Carnival where he was able to show off his love for people and unity. A righteous and God-loving man.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his grandparents Walter and Lily Edwards, biological father John Brooks, beloved step-father Gene Smith, sister Lisa Smith, niece Brittany, and two nephews FuQuan and Al-Mutakabbir.

His legacy will be carried on by his lovely life partner Linda, his one and only beloved child Nicole Smith, beautiful mother Lorraine Edwards, sisters Cynthia Barnhardt, Bernadine Smith, and Joyce Smith, two beloved grandchildren Princess Penelope and Prince Peyton Owens who cherished their Pop-Pop very much and keep his blood alive, along with a host of cousins, 13 nieces and nephews, 22 grandnieces and grandnephews, and 1 aunt Priscilla.

Our memories with Lawrence will forever keep us smiling. A genuine lost treasure for his family and friends.

Until we meet again....
