Larry's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence "Larry" Koslow, on November 30, 2022. Born on October 22, 1942, Larry was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his bubbe Stella, parents Rae and Ralph; brother Michael; sisters, Shirley and Nancy; and grandson Oak. Larry was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 22, 1942 and passed in Tucson, Arizona on November 30, 2022.

Even though he suffered loss, he spoke of growing up in Detroit fondly, being Jewish and learning Yiddish from his bubbe. He graduated from Mumford High School in 1960, where he met his core group of friends, with whom he had many adventures. He attended Wayne State University and California State Los Angeles, where he met Teresa. He also attended and taught at University of California: Riverside for his PhD. He later attended Arizona State University for Law School and taught there as well.

Larry is survived by his wife, Teresa; daughters, Larisa (Tina); Melinda (Ryan); grandsons, Michael (Nicole) and Marshall Hublou; granddaughter, Violet Peterson; sister-in-law, Irene (Rob); nieces, Rhonda (Michael) and sons; Denise (Lenny) and daughter; Alisa (Chris) and sons; Michelle (Jason) and daughter and son; along with dog Molly, many cousins, exchange students, and other relatives and friends. Larry had many deep friendships that lasted throughout his life.

Teresa and Larry were married for 57 years. They shared many wonderful experiences both personal and professional during those years. Those memories are remembered with kindness, music, humor, sharp wit, and most of all love and optimism, even in the darkest hours. He could make jokes anywhere and everywhere, creating the kind of laughter that made his daughters' bellies sore.

With good friends Mauro and Carrol Pando his jokes even became a mock business (with a solid, but raucous business plan) called Bolsa de Pedos. He was so grateful for the many good times shared.

He enjoyed sports and was a big supporter of women's professional sports. Melinda remembers him taking her to see the Minnesota Lynx their inaugural year and Larisa remembers that he loved University of Arizona's women's basketball team, even though he was a Sun Devil.

Larry and Teresa loved nature and hiking which provided them much comfort and solace, particularly Sedona. Considering himself a citizen of the world, he and Teresa lived abroad and traveled extensively.

Larry was an established legal and business professional in the areas of domestic and international law and business development, also finding opportunities to teach in Arizona and Minnesota. He authored two business books, numerous professional articles, and presided over many professional conferences.

Larry worked for two major corporations before joining a law firm in Minnesota. He then left to start his own practice. During those years he helped individuals start their own businesses and nonprofits. He also spoke Spanish and provided bilingual pro bono services.

Teaching and learning were always in Larry's life. After he was diagnosed with dementia caused by Alzheimer's he continued to participate in clinical trials and volunteered to speak about living with Alzheimer's.

Many of Larry's colleagues, associates, and students expressed appreciation for all of his help through the years and sharing of his talents.

He loved music of all kinds, especially jazz and world, and attending concerts with Teresa and daughters. Melinda particularly remembers how he spent an afternoon calling for tickets and taking her to see her favorite childhood group, New Kids on the Block. He loved to sing. Often to his daughters' annoyance, making up humorous songs about their friends. Larry is remembered in his last residence as the "man who sings from his heart."

Here, There, and Everywhere by the Beatles is a song he frequently sang to Teresa. Larry, you are here with us now!

He is greatly missed and honored.
