Lawrence's obituary
Lawrence Santero Jose, 75, of Port Richey, Florida, passed away in Quezon City, Philippines, on November 3, 2024, in the loving company of his three children. Lawrence was born to the late Teodoro and Severina Jose, on July 30, 1949, in Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija, Philippines.
Lawrence went by the nicknames “Joey” and “Toto,” and was adoringly known by many as “Pops.” He was a dual citizen of the Philippines and the U.S. He loved both countries very much. He proudly served in the United States Armed Forces, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1968 and exiting with an honorable discharge in 1975. He received his Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Health Sciences / The Chicago Medical School in 1980. He went on to work as a Medical Technologist and Lab Supervisor, retiring after 30+ years. Lawrence was Catholic and an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, the American Legion, and the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. (PCFI). He was a multi-talented musician with a beautiful singing voice. He was a wonderful cook and loved to travel. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and jokester.
Above all, Lawrence was a model family man. He was a dedicated and cherished father, grandfather, and brother, who was loved and respected by all. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He raised his family with warmth, wisdom, fun, affection, and dependability. He was a hard worker who lived every day with enthusiasm and purpose, finding immense joy in helping others. He was an exceptional friend, well-known for his heart of gold, sense of humor, and countless acts of kindness and generosity.
Lawrence is survived by Bella Jose (sep.); his three children with Christine dela Cruz: Jed Jose (Becky), Rochelle Jose-Paterson (Derek), and Tina Overbaugh (Scott); his eight grandchildren: Ashley Cabanayan, Brendan Overbaugh, Nathan Overbaugh, Reese Overbaugh, Rea Paterson, Halle Paterson, Myla Paterson, and Avery Overbaugh; and his three siblings: Ted Jose, Edna Maines, and Dyna Hagerman.
God bless Lawrence Jose. He will be missed greatly and live forever in our hearts. May he sing with the angels and rejoice in paradise.
* In accordance with Lawrence’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. His dedicated Masses and private ceremonies occurred in the Philippines, and his blessed remains were transported back to the U.S. with his children on 11/12. While honoring his requests, Lawrence’s family continues to celebrate and remember him privately. A celebration of life will be held in January and will be open to family and close friends. Invitations will be extended at a later date, as well as details regarding his final resting place in Florida, where loved ones will be welcome to visit his urn and memorial.
