Lawrence's obituary

Lawrence William "Larry" Hayes Jr., 85, peacefully passed away on September 12th, 2023 surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with Dementia.

Larry was born on April 19th, 1938 to Lawrence (Sr.) and Norma Hayes in Greenfield, Massachusetts. After graduating from Greenfield High School in 1956, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving mainly in Argentia, Newfoundland as a part of AEWRON 11, an air early warning squadron.

After the Navy, Larry returned home and married his loving wife of 62 years, Diane (Ponton) Hayes. Together they raised five children, nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren while he worked in various sales jobs in Connecticut, Florida, and Georgia, until the age of 81. He would have worked until his final day if he could have.

Larry was selected "class clown" by his graduating class in 1956, and his love for making others laugh never ended. Always the life of the party, Larry had a story or joke for every occasion. He had a passion for music, loved to sing, and had a special affection for Elvis Presley.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Janet, and his half brother Kenneth. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as three siblings, David, Peter, and Jill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to charities involving finding a cure for Alzheimer's and Dementia.
