Lawrence Edward “Larry” Diaz, 66, passed away on April 11, 2025, in Roseville, California. Born on July 18, 1958, in Bakersfield, California, Larry lived a life marked by dedication to his family, commitment to his work, and a deep appreciation for the joys of everyday life.
A proud graduate of Bakersfield High School’s Class of 1976, Larry was a standout athlete who excelled in both football and baseball. His competitive spirit and team-oriented mindset would carry through into every chapter of his life. After high school, he attended Bakersfield College. He then began what would become a remarkable 40+ year career as an electrical engineer with PG&E. He also developed many great friendships along the way. Known for his strong work ethic and unwavering reliability, Larry retired in 2020 after decades of service. He took great pride in providing for his family and approached his profession with the same integrity and care that defined all aspects of his life.
Larry’s greatest joy came from being surrounded by those he loved. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to his family and found immense happiness in the roles he cherished most—being a husband, father, and grandfather. “Papa” was dearly loved by all his grandchildren, and whether it was cheering them on at their events or simply spending time with them at home, his love was constant and boundless.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle Diaz; daughters Laura Walker and Kimberly Herold; sons-in-law Bennett Walker and Matthew Herold; and grandchildren Stella Walker, Corinna Walker, Greta Walker, Eleanora Walker, Landon Herold, and Liliana Herold, his siblings—Jim Diaz (Bonnie), Luis Diaz (Sue), Steve Diaz (Debbie), Greg Diaz (Marianne), Tony Diaz (Lori), Christina McFaddin, and brother-in-law Louie Cervantes — along with many other cousins, nieces and nephews who held him dear.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents James and Stella Diaz; sister Shirley Cervantes; brother-in-law Patrick McFaddin; sister-in-law Shelly Diaz; nephew Christopher Cervantes; and niece Jennifer Cervantes.
Outside of work and family life, Larry embraced every opportunity to enjoy the world around him. He had a passion for wine tasting and traveling—experiences he often shared with loved ones. A talented artist with an eye for detail, he found peace in creativity. He also enjoyed watching sports and documentaries that sparked curiosity and conversation.
Known for his generous heart and sense of humor, Larry had a gift for making others feel welcome. He loved hosting gatherings where everyone felt cared for—a true man of service who always put others first.
In accordance with Larry’s wishes, the family will host a Celebration of Life at a future date to be determined.
