I will miss my Aunt Laurie for as long as I dance on this mortal coil. She was there for me when I first opened my eyes to the world, and I will see her when I close them.

She turned me on to the music of Don McLean when I was seven. She would play a record of his, and I memorized "Starry Night" as a result. For me, the words of this song are beautiful, and best represent what she was ... what she will be.

Laurie…Too kind…Too sweet…smart…just a kind soul… I am extremely sorry her babies Andy and Ben. When we went to math competitions, I still remember she will play different games with Andy on the road. I always thought such a great mom! Also loved her son Ben so much too… I am always here if you need me.

She told us many times that all she ever wanted was to be a mother. She WAS a mother, all the way to her core. Even in the beginning, when I was a difficult child to be around, she ensured that I knew I was loved no matter what I said, what I did, and how I acted, even when I was a major brat. When I was being a twit, she would "punish" me by making me sit down in her lap or on the bed/couch while she read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Even when she was so weak and tired she could only whisper (and a whisper was a struggle) she would use whatever energy she could muster to make sure her kids were ok or to try to make a joke. She frequently doubted her abilities as a mother. I just wish she knew how many lives she touched over the years. I would make a point to make her cry (happy tears) when I told her about all the good things she did as a mother for everyone around her. She couldn't stop caring for everyone and everything (animals included) even when she struggled to stay awake between juggling long shifts at work and her MANY medical appointments. Sure, she had some flaws. We all do. One of her biggest flaws was her inability to say "no" to someone/something in need of her love. I fussed at her a few times for getting another pet when she already had several. She would respond, "I'm sorry; I can't help it." Then we would laugh about it. I could go on and on about my mama.
