I was lucky to spend many wonderful years with Laura.  In that time, I got to experience her brightness, happiness, and excitement.  Whether it was because she was with friends having champagne on a Thursday night, because she brought her friends to her family home to roast a pig and have trifle, or because of a snarky remark, Laura was always ready to share her generous and grateful laugh.  I felt her fire when she saw unfairness, when she would unshakingly explain why things were unfair--and, more than that, when she focused her studies and career on addressing unfairness in access to quality education.  I learned about her resiliency and determination by witnessing her overcoming obstacles and growing stronger for it.  Her strength of person could only be matched by her love of cats.  She will always carry a very special and very loved place in my heart.

A wonderful dinner in Greenville
I have only known Laura for the past year as Burt's Mom.  I always felt welcome coming into her home and it was obvious she had a kind and beautiful soul.   My heart breaks for Laura, her family, and her friends.  I am so very sorry for your loss.
