Laura's obituary
September 27, 1949 – October 9, 2023
Born in Medford, Oregon to parents Robert Lee Miller and Lola Noreen Perry Miller, shortly after that Laura and her family moved to Sacramento, California. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry Miller, and her husband William “Will” Carpender III. Laura passed away in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by family.
Laura is survived by her loving daughters, Michele Niccore and Sherry Carpender-Pease. Laura enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Eli Schwartz, Eva Niccore and Joel Pease, in addition to her great-grandchildren Arthur and Lola. She is also survived by brothers Donald (Diane) Miller, David (Donna) Miller, Roberta (Bob) Ross, Joy Miller and brother-in-law Tom Carpender, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. All who knew Laura loved her.
After graduating from California State University Chico with a BA degree in Sociology in 1980, Laura went on to touch many lives through her work, including family support services, independent living skills for at-risk youth, serving Native American tribes in the White Mountains of Arizona, and finally tobacco awareness in Amador County. Laura spent her life giving to others through her career, volunteer work and donations to many organizations.
Laura was well-known in the local artist community for her fiber art including spinning wool, weaving, quilting, gourd art and sewing. She was a member of the Del Oro Spinners and Weavers and a founding member of the Sutter Creek Art Gallery. Laura loved to dance! She was a familiar face to see in the local Amador music circles.
Laura will be missed by many. A celebration of Laura’s life will be held at a later date.
