LaShonda's obituary

LaShonda Jeanee Hubbard was born December 10, 1973 in Fort Leavenworth, KS. She was the youngest child and only daughter of three born to COL(Ret) Jerry A. Hubbard, Sr. and the late Miriam Brailey Hubbard. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 19, 2018.
Although she did a lot of moving as a “military brat”, she spent most of her life in Virginia. She graduated from Robinson High School in Burke, VA in 1991 where she was a member of the track team and band. She continued her education at South Carolina State University and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Speech Pathology.
She welcomed her son, the light of her life, Nicholas De’Shaun Hubbard in 1996. LaShonda was a devoted and loving mother and Nicholas’ biggest fan; she attended an infinite amount of sporting events and programs to support her son. Nicholas currently attends her alma mater, South Carolina State University and LaShonda never missed an opportunity to visit him at school.
LaShonda was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; a dedicated and life member of the South Carolina State University D.C. Alumni Chapter where she served as the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee; a life member of the South Carolina State University National Alumni Association; and a member of Alfred Street Baptist church where she was the secretary of her Discipleship Group.
LaShonda was a dedicated Washington Redskins fan as displayed by her personalized Redskins license plate “2RUF4N” (true fan). She enjoyed her GoGo music and TRULY LOVED, REALLY LOVED spending time with her family. LaShonda’s last employment was as a Quality Assurance Analyst for the Mentor Network in Lanham, Maryland.
LaShonda loved life and loved people from all walks of life. She was definitely a people person and would do anything for you. She had a gentle and loving spirit and a love for young people. She annually hosted a reception for DC area students who attended South Carolina State, known affectionately as SCSU Bullpups. She participated in many college seminars in the DC area to encourage high school students to attend her alma mater and if not SCSU, she encouraged the students to attend another institution of higher learning. She was a very loving person -- unless you crossed her family. She loved her family and participated in arranging a Brailey family reunion. She especially loved her nieces, grandniece and nephew and frequently flew cross country or drove to attend their special events. LaShonda was a willing and able babysitter anytime her brothers called.
She leaves behind to cherish her love and memories her son, Nicholas Hubbard; her father Jerry Hubbard, Sr.; brothers Jerry Hubbard, Jr. and Kenneth Hubbard; sisters-in-law Tami Hubbard and Stephanie Hubbard; nieces Sara Simonds and Avery Hubbard; nephews Kenneth Christian Hubbard and Avery Simonds; great-niece Brailee Simonds; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
