Larry Wayne Staggs, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 7, 2026, at Hendrick Medical Center South in Abilene, Texas. A celebration of life service will take place at the First Baptist Church in Knox City, Texas on February 14, 2026 at 1 p.m. with a meal to precede at 11:30 a.m.

Larry was born on February 5, 1943 to Grady Staggs and Doris Worley in Childress, Texas, the second of their five children.

Larry graduated from Paducah High School in 1961, where he was Student Body President, an honor student, a basketball player, and a baseball player. After graduation, he attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas for one year before he was accepted as a pharmacy student at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He graduated as a registered pharmacist in 1966.

Larry met the love of his life, Beth Mayberry, in Paducah, Texas in 1962 through a mutual friend. Larry recounted that God spoke to him after meeting Beth and told him that she was the one God had planned for him to spend his life with. They were married at First Baptist Church in Paducah, Texas on May 29, 1965. They spent 60 years and 9 months together as devoted husband and wife.

Larry and Beth served the First Baptist Church in many capacities; he was music director of the church for 13 years, and the couple participated in many singing groups such as “The Octet.”

Larry and Beth had two children: Nathan Staggs in 1967 and Angie Staggs in 1972, both born in Paducah, Texas. Larry and his family moved to Knox City, Texas in 1978, where Larry and Beth owned and operated Larson’s Pharmacy and passionately served their community for 35 years.

Larry was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Knox City, Texas, where he faithfully served the Lord through several positions, such as music director, youth music, adult Sunday school teacher, adult bible study teacher, and deacon for a number of years.

Larry was a civic-minded person; he served in Paducah as a member of the Jaycees and head of the Salvation Army for Cottle County. In Knox City, he was a member of the Lion’s Club and served on the city council for 15 years. He was a proud supporter of the local school programs and activities, also serving as a little league coach.

Larry spent his free time enjoying the outdoors, often hunting, fishing, golfing, and working in his woodshop. His children and grandchildren were the greatest joys of his life, and he is remembered by them for his sense of humor, his guidance, and his unconditional love.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Grady and Doris Staggs, his daughter Angie Staggs, his brother Preston and wife Pat Staggs, and his brother Lynn Staggs. He is survived by his wife, Beth, of Knox City, TX; his son Nathan Staggs and wife Cassie of Coupeville, WA; his grandchildren: Brittani Richards and spouse Victoria of San Antonio, TX, Christina Staggs of Austin, TX, Cameron Staggs of Houston, TX, Jade Jurica and spouse RJ of Deanville, TX, and Jagger Wessels of Brenham, TX; and his great-granddaughter Scottie Jurica. He also leaves many other family members, dear friends, and his dog Mozzy.
