Larry's obituary
Larry Gale Hoskins, age 83, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of Monday, December 1, 2025.
Larry was born on January 2, 1942, to Forrest and Mary Hoskins in Versailles, Missouri. Throughout the 1960s and 70s he traveled across the United States and abroad in tent revivals as a musician and evangelist, joyfully sharing the hope of Jesus wherever he went. After this season of ministry, he served as Associate Youth Pastor at Sheffield Family Life Center in northeast Kansas City, Missouri, where he met the love of his life, Debbie, whom he later married.
In 1980, Larry accepted the call to serve as Senior Pastor of Soul’s Harbour Memorial Church in Independence, Missouri. For the next 44 years he faithfully shepherded the congregation, preaching the good news of salvation in Christ and making an eternal impact on countless lives. Of all those touched by his ministry, none were more precious to him than his beloved wife and children.
Larry was deeply loved by everyone who knew him. He gave himself generously for the care and service of others, motivated by the overflow of his own walk with Jesus. His life was marked by the same sacrificial love and servant-hearted leadership that he saw in his Savior. He displayed this love in practical acts of kindness and service, and in his tireless proclamation of the hope of the gospel: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners by laying down his life in their place.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; son James and daughter-in-law Lisa (Sullivant); daughter Amy and son-in-law Dan Cogan; grandchildren Mairin, Graham, Connor, Niall, Olive, Knox, and Lars; brother Jimmy and sister-in-law Sharon; and sisters Stella (Cornish) and Sheila (Corder).
He is preceded in death by his father, Forrest; mother, Mary; brothers Ronald “Ronnie” and Forest “Dino”; sisters Mona (Angel) and Tammy (Joffré); sister-in-law Earlene; nephews Aaron and Jonathan Box and Nick Ferro; and niece Sophia Musgrave.
His memorial service will be held at Heart Church (formerly Soul’s Harbour) at 17142 East 39th Street South, Independence, Missouri on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.
“Well done, good and faithful servant…
Enter into the joy of your master.”
