Larry's obituary
cancer on December 3, 2020. Larry was born on February 26, 1957
to Luvenure and Theodis Flournoy in New Madrid Missouri. He
was the 9th of 12 children born to that Union. He moved from
Missouri to Minnesota after the tragic death of his brother at the
age of 8. He fought for the Golden Gloves in Minneapolis from
age 10-12 and was a sports enthusiast throughout his life. He
attended Bancroft Junior High and Central High School in South
Minneapolis.
In 1992, he became one of the Minnesota 8 and was confined in
Minnesota prisons until he was released on a conditional medical
release in September 22, 2020. Larry Received his (GED) General
Educational Diploma from the State of Minnesota in 2001 and
joined the Moorish Science Temple of America in 2002 where he was elect as the Assistant Grand Sheik and named Larry Jerome Flournoy-Bey. He received several awards during his incarceration including a
Certificate of Appreciation for Committed Work in Attaining
Educational Goals, and for his participation in a peer support
group (Helping Other People Evolve (H.O.P.E.).
He is survived by a daughter, Marcy Smith-Akinpelu; sons, Larry
and Theodis; sisters, Verlena, Callie, Virgie, and Carol Flournoy;
grandchildren, Takeila Barnett, Larry Smith, Jr., Larry James-Lee
Smith, Latrell Smith, Larryon Smith, and Naja’rea Smith and many
other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents,
Luvenure and Theodis; seven siblings, Theodis Jr., Jacob Lee,
Walter, Melvin, Mattie, Cora, Harold, Walter and Romone' and a niece, Tomeka.
