Larry's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Russell born October 10, 1948, who departed our realms on December 6, 2024. He has joined his beloved parents, Martha and Thornton Russell, in the heavenly abode.

Larry leaves behind an admirable legacy of love, strength, and honor, cherished by his daughter, Tiffany Russell; his grandsons, Rowan McPherson, Derek Lee, Xhane, and Emren Gonsoland; his granddaughters, Yana Parrish, Tatum McPherson, and Zurie Gonsoland. A pillar of support, Larry was a guiding light for his brothers, Jeff, Reginald, Brian, and Stacy Russell.

Larry stepped into the world of adulthood in 1967, graduating high school from Ford City, PA. He contributed many years of dedicated service to Glaxo Smith Kline, retiring in 2005. His indomitable spirit and resilient personality were a constant source of inspiration for those around him.

Having a strong taste for life, Larry relished Johnny Walker Blue Label and Pepsi, his favorite beverages. His love for food was unrivaled. The melodious tunes of Luther Vandross, Tina Turner, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Cher, Mary J Blige, and Barbara Streisand resonated with his soul. He found solace in watching Absolutely Fabulous and was an avid fan of How Stella Got her Groove Back and Madea movies. Larry appreciated the expressive art of Frida Kahlo and passionately cheered for the Steelers. He loved engaging in games of Gin, Spades, and Mortal Kombat. The electrifying performances of Shakira and Tina Turner were a source of joy for him. His favorite recreational activities included gardening, traveling, shopping, sewing, and dancing. He was a fitness enthusiast, often seen power walking or hitting the gym. Larry loved exploring new places with Puerto Rico, Greece, and The UK being his favorite vacation spots. Red was the color that best represented his vibrant and dynamic personality.

Larry’s life was a testament to his mantra of living for today and being accountable for one's actions. He was a force of positivity, known for his kindness, honesty, resilience, and empathy. His greatest accomplishment was raising his daughter as a single father, navigating the chaos of a house full of teenagers, and prevailing against minority stereotypes. Larry will be remembered for his inspiring spirit and the positive values he instilled in those he touched. His absence will be deeply felt, both on the dance floor and in our hearts.
