Larry's obituary

Larry G. Brasfield of Carlsbad, CA entered into eternal rest Saturday June 18th, 2022, five weeks after celebrating his 80th birthday. A fighter and cowboy at heart until the day he died, Larry battled cancer for nearly half a year before finally passing peacefully at his home in Carlsbad.

Larry was born May 14, 1942 in Kansas City, MO to Joe and Helen Brasfield. The family moved to Peoria, IL in 1955 where Larry would become a three sport athlete at Central High School as a member of the football, wrestling and track teams.

At the age of 19, he followed his parents and older brother, Bob, into the trucking industry as a truck driver. Over the next 51 years, Larry had jobs in dispatch, management and sales and before retiring at the age of 70. “Trucking is all about service, and service starts with people,” Larry would say. “I learned that from my dad.”

Even in retirement, Larry had a servant heart and was very active with the Optimist Club in Vista and chaired many fund-raising golf outings to a noble and local cause.

Jeannie was Larry’s high school sweetheart and they married in 1962. Their first son, Joe, was born in ’63, followed by ‘Little Larry’ in ’65 and Jennifer in ’71 Larry and Jeannie were married for 23 years.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, former wife, Jeannie, and brother Bob.

In May of 1992 Larry and Betsy Pince were married and they were blessed with a son, Zackary, in 1997. They enjoyed many tropical vacations together and cheering for Zack on the baseball field. They were married for 24 years. Larry loved photography, especially when it came to Zack’s baseball teams.

In addition to his four children, Larry was the very proud Grandpa aka ‘Big Daddy’ to seven grandchildren; Kaevon and Leila Brasfield; Robert Brasfield (Jamie, spouse), Joseph Brasfield (Katherine, spouse), Holly Brasfield; Kyla and Ethan Wrenn. Great Grandpa to Leah, Blake, Addison, Bruin and Elowen Brasfield.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:30AM Saturday July 2nd at North Coast Calvary Chapel, 1330 Poinsettia Lane, Carlsbad, CA.
