Lara's obituary
Lara Michelle Vaughan Lazenby, a radiant, wild-hearted creative force, passed away after living fiercely through four separate battles with cancer. She was a ballerina, a singer, an actor, a teacher, an award-winning author, a visual artist, and a soul who seemed to exist half in this world and half in something brighter.
Lara was the author of Scars, Scribbles and the Power of Crayons, a memoir of her experience with childhood Hodgkin’s lymphoma, written to help other survivors embrace their scars. It was a deeply personal testament to resilience, imagination, and the healing power of storytelling.
Her creative vision extended into interiors through her company, Lara Lazenby Designs, which transformed homes and spaces across Florida with a wide mastery of faux finishes. Her talent took her around the world, teaching and attending decorative arts workshops.
She traveled widely and lived boldly, often scuba diving with her beloved husband of 35 years, Steven, exploring the silence and mystery of underwater worlds with the same wonder she brought to every part of life. She had a deep reverence for beauty and a playful rebellion against anything that dulled it.
Lara lived by the words she often spoke: “Suck the marrow out of life.” And she did exactly that.
