Lane's obituary

Lane Jerry Brunner passed away August 31st, 2022 with his family by side at Hospice of East Texas after battling brain cancer. Lane was born June 23rd, 1963 in Offenbach, Germany to Karin Wissig and Howard Ray Brunner. He enjoyed a loving childhood full of travel before settling in Seattle, Washington where he began his lifelong career in Pharmacy research, graduating with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. During that time, he met his loving wife, Molly. He later completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy at the University of Georgia in 1995, specializing in pharmacokinetics. Lane accomplished a tremendous amount throughout his career; he had multiple graduate and post-doctoral fellowships including research for NASA. He was proud to be the founding Dean of the Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Tyler. He cherished his time at the university, especially the time he was able to spend working directly with his students. He inspired so many with his love for teaching and building a community. Lane had many interests including taekwondo, running, and photography. He was a car enthusiast, collector of art, and an experienced numismatist. Lane was the president of the Tyler Coin Club and always enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passion about coins. His dedication to education and sharing knowledge will be greatly missed.

Nicknamed by his wife “Mr. Happy Shiny Guy”, Lane loved to make people laugh with bad puns, dad jokes, and funny stories. His friends describe him as a leading light in their lives and a visionary. Lane is survived by his parents Karin and Ray, wife of 32 years Molly, and their three children, Jordan, Evan, and Lauren. A memorial service will be held on September 3rd at 1:00 PM at the Braithwaite Recital Hall at The University of Texas at Tyler.
