Lanceton “Lance” Arthur Lewis, 55, of Pennington, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Lance is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Bean Lewis; their four beautiful children, Lanceton Arthur Lewis II, Henry Alexander Lewis, Walter Gareth Lewis, and Lily Grace Lewis; his parents, Gary Lewis and Patricia Lewis (née Faunce); and his sister Lorrie Lewis Reynolds.

Lance was born on December 7, 1969, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Spring-Ford Area High School in 1987 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Villanova University in 1991, where he was an active member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. In 1993, he proudly began his 31-year-long career as a software engineer at companies including ADP, Merrill Lynch, and Crédit Agricole (formerly Crédit Lyonnais). He worked his way up from Analyst to Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer, and in 2017, he founded his own consulting company, Nahgo. His love of computers expanded beyond the office, as he would code for hours at home, sometimes building games to exchange with his eldest son, Arthur.

Lance married the love of his life and former ADP coworker, Sandra, on October 24, 1998. The two were each other’s lifelong companions, doting dance partners, and best friends. They welcomed their first child in 2000 and were blessed with three more in 2003, 2004, and 2015, respectively.

Lance will be remembered as a true gentleman, hard-worker, and meticulous problem-solver—from a broken dining room table to a flooding sump pump, there wasn’t a problem he couldn’t MacGyver. He was a Renaissance man. Lance was a critical thinker, an honest listener, and a proponent of the lost art of civil discourse; he even ran for local government.

Lance was a devoted father and watchful protector. He was a man of excellence and the utmost integrity—he always did the right thing and wanted things done right. Each year, he drove out to a Christmas tree farm (or sometimes three), family in tow, to find and saw down the perfect spruce; he took his children skiing every Saturday morning for a couple winters to instill them with discipline; and he never missed a robotics conference, football game, civil air patrol event, or piano recital. He loved shooting, camping, and animals. He was a night owl and a certified nerd with a penchant for fantasy, from childhood games of Dungeons and Dragons to late-night marathons of The Hobbit.

Lance was full of wonder and adventure: his love of traveling was piqued as a child with annual trips to Lake George to waterski. As an adult, he endeavored to hit all the historic hotels in America and expanded his horizons by traveling to India, France, Canada, and Fiji. He surprised Sandra with an extravagant honeymoon trip to the Kingdom of Tonga, a country on the International Date Line, because he wanted to start their married life where every new day began. During his final vacation, a trip to Hawaii, he climbed Oahu’s awe-inspiring Diamond Head alongside his family—he was the kind of man who had enough will and strength to move that mountain. His resolve and curiosity lives on in his children, who are his biggest accomplishments. He will be deeply missed by all the lives he touched.

Family, friends, and other loved ones are invited to celebrate the illustrious life of Lanceton Arthur Lewis on January 4, 2025, at Hope Presbyterian Church (140 Denow Rd, Lawrence Township, NJ 08648). A family greeting will be held at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a scholarship fund for Lily.
